Abstract

Indonesia is number 1 in the world as the country with the majority of the population who spend the longest time staring at a device per day. In addition, the adolescent population is in a phase of psychological need to express themselves and connect with other people. This then contributes to the rise of On-FOMO (Online Fear of Missing Out) which is widespread among teenagers. This research aims to see the relationship between parental attachment and ON-FoMO levels in adolescents. This research method uses a quantitative design with a correlational test that correlates scores from the attachment scale (IPPA-R) with scores from the On-FOMO scale. Of the 115 samples with an age range of 18-21 years, the correlation results between the parental attachment variable and ON-FoMO showed a value of -0.307 (p<0.05), which means that parental attachment is significantly negatively correlated with ON-FoMO. The communication dimension has the largest correlation with the total parental attachment score, with a correlation value of 0.803. The need to belong dimension has the largest correlation with the total ON-FoMO score, with a correlation value of 0.776. The results of this study show that better parental attachment will reduce the level of ON-FoMO in adolescents. It is hoped that future research can take a larger sample with a wider age range reaching early and middle adolescents. From the results of this research, it can be used as a reference that parenting patterns in creating good parental attachment are actually able to reduce the negative influence of social media, one of which is ON-FoMO.
