Abstract
Algoritma dan Pemrograman adalah salah satu mata kuliah yang penting bagi seorang mahasiswa Informatika, karena mata kuliah tersebut menjadi fondasi dalam pemikiran logis dan kelanjutannya dalam tingkat-tingkat pelajaran berikutnya. Mata kuliah ini sering dianggap sulit terutama bagi mahasiswa baru yang belum ada pengalaman. Hal ini dapat menyebabkan motivasi belajar dan pemahaman terhadap materi yang lebih rendah. Motivasi dari seorang siswa juga sangat berhubungan dengan prestasi belajar mereka. Kurangnya metode pembelajaran yang interaktif menjadi salah satu faktor penyebabnya. Maka dari itu diperlukan adanya pendekatan lain yang lebih inovatif untuk membantu mahasiswa dalam meningkatkan motivasi belajar Algoritma dan Pemrograman. Salah satu cara yang diteliti adalah lewat gamifikasi, di mana dapat menggabungkan pembelajaran dengan elemen permainan agar lebih interaktif dan efektif.
Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti mengembangkan sebuah game edukasi yang bergenre Tower Defense menggunakan platform UNITY. Game ini dirancang dengan elemen strategi yang dapat menguji logika dan pemahaman dasar mahasiswa terhadap Algoritma dan Pemrograman seperti loop, if statement, dan sorting. Hasil dari evaluasi motivasi belajar mahasiswa akan diukur menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan survei IMMS (The Instructional Material Motivation Survey) pre-test dan post-test yang berbasis model ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction). Harapan peneliti dari penelitian ini adalah agar mahasiswa lebih termotivasi dalam belajar materi Algoritma dan pemrograman
Evaluasi terhadap 24 mahasiswa Informatika Universitas Pelita Harapan menunjukkan peningkatan motivasi yang signifikan pada keempat komponen ARCS setelah intervensi game. Analisis Wilcoxon Signed Rank mengonfirmasi bahwa peningkatan tersebut bermakna secara statistik pada tingkat signifikansi p < 0,05, dengan effect size sedang untuk aspek Attention dan Relevance, serta effect size besar untuk Confidence, Satisfaction, dan motivasi keseluruhan. Hasil ini mengindikasikan bahwa gamifikasi melalui game Tower Defense edukasi efektif dalam meningkatkan motivasi belajar Algoritma dan Pemrograman. / Algorithms and Programming is one of the important courses for Informatics students, because it is the base foundation for its logical thinking and continuation in the next levels of study. This course is often considered difficult, especially for newer students who have no experience. This can lead to a lower motivation to learn and understanding of the material. A student's motivation is also closely related to their learning achievement. The lack of interactive learning methods is one of the contributing factors, therefore, another innovative approach is needed to help students increase their motivation to learn Algorithms and Programming. One of the methods studied is through gamification, which can combine learning with game elements to make it more interactive and effective.
In this study, the researcher developed an educational game with Tower Defense as its genre using the UNITY platform. This game is designed with strategic elements that can evaluate students' logic and basic understanding of Algorithms and Programming such as loops, if statements, and sorting. The results of the evaluation of students' learning motivation will be measured using a quantitative method with the IMMS (The Instructional Material Motivation Survey) pre-test and post-test survey based on the ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction) model. The researcher's hope from this study is that students will be more motivated in learning Algorithm and programming materials.
Evaluation of 24 Informatics students at Universitas Pelita Harapan revealed a statistically significant increase in motivation across all ARCS components after game interaction. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank analysis confirmed these improvements were significant at p < 0.05, with attention and relevance showing moderate effect sizes and confidence, satisfaction, and overall motivation exhibiting large effect sizes. These findings indicate that gamification through a Tower Defense educational game can effectively enhance student motivation in learning Algorithms and Programming
