Abstract
This study focused on examining the difference between two dimensions of emotional regulation, which are Cognitive Reappraisal and expressive suppression between migrants scholarship students and non-scholarship students, this study performed in Universitas Pelita Harapan Tangerang. Emotional regulation plays a crucial role on helping migrants students manage their emotions and acedemic stress in order to adapt to their new enviroments. The study use Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) by J. Gross (1998), that measures both Cognitive Reappraisal and expressive suppression. The methods that are used are convenience sampling to collect the data of 136 migrants student. In results there’re no significant differences between the two variable of emotion regulations between scholarship students and non-scholarship students, which demonstrated average levels of both emotion regulation strategies. These findings may serve as a foundation to develop a psychological intervention programs aimed at supporting migrant students to manage their emotions and enhancing their well being at Universitas Pelita Harapan. / Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami apakah ada perbedaan antara kedua dimensi regulasi emosi yaitu cognitive reappraisal dan expressive suppression antara mahasiswa perantau penerima beasiswa dan non-beasiswa di Universitas Pelita Harapan, Tanggerang. Regulasi emosi berperan penting dalam kehidupan mahsiswa merantau. Untuk mencapai tujuan dalam perkuliahan mahasiswa perantau memerlukan regulasi emosi untuk dapat menghadapi berbagai tekanan emosional dan juga akademis, dan juga tuntutan untuk menghadapi lingkungan baru. Penelitian ini berfokus pada perbedaan regulasi emosi pada mahasiswa perantau non-beasiswa dan mahasiswa perantau penerima beasiswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan alat ukur Emotional Regulation Questionnaire oleh J. Gross (1998) yang terdiri dari dua dimensi yaitu cognitive reappraisal dan expressive suppression, dengan menggunakan metode pengambilan data conviniene sampling pada 136 mahasiswa perantau di Universitas Pelita Harapan. Hail penelitian mendapatkan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada regulasi emosi kedua sampel yaitu mahasiswa perantau beasiswa dan mahasiswa perantau non-beasiswa di Universitas Pelita Harapan. Mahasiswa perantau Universitas Pelita Harapan memiliki regulasi emosi yang tergolong rata-rata pada kedua dimensi. Ditemukan juga hasil bahwa mahasiswa yang merantau lebih dari 3 tahun mengalami penurunan dalam tingkat regulasi emosi pada kedua dimensi (Cognitive reappraissal dan Expressive Euppression) Maka hasil dari penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi dasar dalam pengembangan program intervensi psikologis bagi para mahasiswa merantau dan Universitas Pelita Harapan dalam membantu mahasiswa perantau dalam mengelola emosi dan menyediakan lingkungan yang baik bagi mahasiswa perantau
