Abstract

Shooter games are one of the most popular genres in the video game
industry, usually developed using complex game engines such as Unity or Unreal
Engine. However, these engines require high technical skills and extensive
resources, making them less accessible for independent developers. Ren’Py, a game
engine primarily designed for developing visual novels, offers a simpler alternative.
This study explores the feasibility of using Ren’Py to develop a shooter game titled
Ren’Py Crisis.
The research aims to develop a simple shooter game using Ren’Py and to
evaluate user satisfaction through the Game User Experience Satisfaction Scale
(GUESS). The development process involves Python scripting in Ren’Py to build
game mechanics such as weapon control, enemy AI behavior, and scoring systems.
A user survey was conducted with 34 respondents aged 18–40, and statistical
analyses were performed using SPSS.The resuts of the validity test using Pearson
Correlation shows that the overall factors results is above 0.339 indicating that it is
valid. The results for the reliability test with the value of Cronbach’s Alpha 0.834
show that the data is reliable. The results of the normality test show that the majority
of the data is not normal, therefore the test will use t-Test for parametric data and
Wilcoxon Signed Rank test for non-parametric data.
The results show that players generally agreed that the game provided an
enjoyable experience, particularly in usability, visual and audio aesthetics, and
personal gratification. Although narrative and multiplayer features were not
implemented, the results indicate that Ren’Py is a viable option for simple shooter
game development.
