Abstract

Plastic surgery has become a popular choice for individuals seeking to enhance their physical appearance, yet its impact on interpersonal and intrapersonal communication remains underexplored. This research stems from the growing phenomenon of plastic surgery procedures and how they affect the way individuals perceive and present themselves in social interactions. The main issue addressed is how the experience of undergoing plastic surgery influences patients' intrapersonal and interpersonal communication. This study aims to uncover post- surgery communication changes using a constructivist paradigm, qualitative approach, and phenomenological method. The main theories used are body image and self-identity. The five participants include aesthetic patients, reconstructive patients, patient partners, and cosmetic doctors. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participatory observation. The findings reveal that plastic surgery enhances self-confidence, strengthens intrapersonal communication, and improves how individuals interact interpersonally. Nevertheless, several emotional and social challenges emerge during the recovery process. This study highlights the importance of therapeutic communication and social support. It is recommended that future research explore more diverse cultural and gender contexts.
