Abstract

Background According to RISKESDAS 2013, incidence of hypertension reached 25.8% of the total population in Indonesia. This shows that hypertension appear to be a real problem for the people of Indonesia. A research done by David Barker in 1990 showed that low birth weight has a causal relationship with the incidence of hypertension. Data from WHO in the year 2002 showed that more than 9% of total births were those born with low birth weight, thus indicating the possibility of low birth weight to be one of the reasons for the high occurrence of hypertension in Indonesia. Purpose To find the relationship between low birth weight with hypertension in patients at ages 20-40 years old. Method The study uses a cross sectional method with primary data collection through interview and handing out of questionnaire to target population of hypertensive patients aged 20-40 years old in Siloam General Hospital. Sample collection will be done using non-probability method and is purposive. Determination of sample will be through medical records to establish polyclinic patients who have been diagnosed with hypertension. Data analysis will be done using the program SPSS23 using Mann Whitney and logistic regression statistical analysis where results show significance if p<0.05. Result Birth weight in hypertensive patients do not show a significant relationship (p>0.05) Conclusion No relationship is found between low birth weight with hypertension / Latar Belakang Menurut Riskesdas 2013, prevalensi hipertensi di Indonesia mencapai 25.8% dari total populasi.
