Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a disease associated with chronic inflammatory response to gases or harmful particles. One of the most influencing factors of COPD s smoking. It is known that cigarettes contain thousands of chemicals and carcinogens that can damage the human body especially lung tissue. To calculate the degree of smoking in active smokers we using Brinkman Index. This study aims to determine the relationship between Index Brinkman with severity of COPD in Rumah Sakit Umum Siloam Karawaci. This research was an unpaired categorical comparative analytic study and conducted with a cross sectional study design. The sample of the study amounted 40 people and were COPD patients who came to the Pulmonary Clinic in Rumah Sakit Umum Siloam Karawaci. The subject sampling selection will use purposive sampling. The data will be collected and be processed using Chi Square statistical test. The results showed that there was a significant correlation between Brinkman Index with the severity of COPD in Rumah Sakit Umum Siloam Karawaci (p=0.016). It is also known that active smokers have 9 times chance of getting COPD compared to people who do not smoke or called passive smokers. (OR=9, 95% CI=1.638-49.446). This study confirms the effects of smoking habits that become one of the risk factors for COPD events / Penyakit Paru Obstruktif Kronik (PPOK) merupakan penyakit yang berhubungan dengan respons inflamasi kronik terhadap gas atau partikel berbahaya. Salah satu faktor yang paling mempengaruhi PPOK adalah kebiasaan merokok. Diketahui bahwa rokok mengandung ribuan bahan kimia dan karsinogen yang dapat merusak tubuh manusia terutama jaringan paru-paru. Pada perokok aktif dapat dihitung derajat berat merokok menggunakan Indeks Brinkman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara Indeks Brinkman dengan derajat keparahan PPOK di Rumah Sakit Umum Siloam Karawaci. Penelitian ini merupakan studi analitik komparatif kategorik tidak berpasangan yang dilaksanakan dengan desain penelitian cross sectional menggunakan kuesioner. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 40 orang yang merupakan pasien PPOK yang berobat di Poliklinik Paru Rumah Sakit Umum Siloam Karawaci. Pemilihan subjek dengan teknik purposive sampling. Hasil data yang terkumpul akan diolah menggunakan uji statistik Chi Square. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan yang signifikan antara Indeks Brinkman dengan derajat keparahan PPOK di Rumah Sakit Umum Siloam Karawaci (p=0,016). Diketahui bahwa perokok aktif mempunyai peluang 9 kali untuk terkena PPOK dibandingkan dengan orang yang tidak merokok atau disebut perokok pasif. (OR=9, 95% CI=1,638-49,446). Penelitian ini menegaskan efek kebiasaan merokok yang menjadi salah satu faktor resiko kejadian PPOK.
