Abstract

Di era globalisasi seperti saat ini, perkembangan teknologi komunikasi dan transportasi terjadi dengan sangat pesat. Dalam bidang teknologi komunikasi, teknologi jarangan internet telah merubah seluruh aspek kehidupan manusia, baik secara sosial, ekonomi, budaya bahkan politik. Salah satu perkembangan terlihat dari kemunculan media baru. Salah satu platform media baru yang paling banyak digunakan adalah media sosial Instagram. Melalui aplikasi Instagram, pengguna dimungkinkan untuk memutuskan hubungan pertemanan atau unfollow. Fenomena unfollow atau memutuskan hubungan pertemanan dalam Instagram membawa dampak memburuknya hubungan sosial antara kedua belah pihak dalam hubungan sosial di luar media atau dalam kehidupan nyata (offline). Serta menarik peneliti untuk memahami makna tindakan unfollow menurut generasi milenial di Jakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian fenomenologi. Peneliti mengumpulkan data melalui wawancara mendalam dengan informan-informan yang memiliki kriteria tertentu. Adapun makna tindakan unfollow yang peneliti peroleh dari penelitian ini adalah pertama, adanya rasa ingin menjauh dari kehidupan suatu individu baik dari dunia dalam jaringan (online) ataupun dunia luar jaringan (offline). Kedua, ketidakingin tahuan tentang keseharian dari individu lain. Ketiga, terganggu dengan konten yang di posting oleh pemiliki akun Instagram tersebut. Keempat, adanya perpanjangan dari masalah di dunia luar jaringan. Kelima, kesan memulai keributan. Keenam, perasaan tidak simpatik. Ketujuh, tindakan unfollow dimaknai sebagai hal sepele yang tidak perlu dibesar-besarkan. / In the era of globalization as it is today, the development of communication and transportation technology occurs very rapidly. In the field of communication technology, internet network technology has changed all aspects of human life, both socially, economically, culturally and even politically. One development can be seen from the emergence of new media. One of the most widely used new media platforms is social media Instagram. Through the Instagram application, users are able to break friendships or unfollow. The phenomenon of unfollowing or severing friendships in Instagram brings the impact of deteriorating social relations between the two parties in social relations outside the media or in real life (offline). As well as attracting researchers to understand the meaning of unfollow actions according to millennial generation in Jakarta. This research uses qualitative research methods with the type of phenomenological research. Researchers collect data through in-depth interviews with informants who have certain criteria. The meaning of unfollowing that researchers obtain from this research is first, there is a sense of wanting to stay away from the life of an individual both from the world in the network (online) or the outside world network (offline). Second, the unwillingness to know about the daily lives of other individuals. Third, disturbed by the content posted by the owner of the Instagram account. Fourth, there is an extension of problems in the outside world network. Fifth, the impression of starting a scene. Sixth, unsympathetic feelings. Seventh, unfollowing are interpreted as trivial things that do not need to be exaggerated.
