Abstract

A positive relationship between teacher and the students is important in the learning process. As God created human to have a relationship with others, a Christian teacher should be able to have a relationship with the students as well. A shepherd teacher is someone who values relational growth. They are longing to know the students personally and build the relation with them. In order to build a positive relationship with the students, a shepherd teacher needs to have a friendly communication with the students. This friendly communication can be done by having narrative and conversational communication. Other than that, a shepherd teacher also needs to give a sense of caring to the students, which can be done by giving a feedback. These two factors will lead the students to have a good feeling toward the teacher. As the result, the students will be more open in expressing their thoughts in the classroom. Thus, it will affect their engagement during the learning process. When the students are engaged, they will participate and follow the instructions by the teacher willingly.
