Abstract

The era of globalization requires students to have the ability to speak English for communication. Unfortunately based on observation which was done in Grade 3 in XYZ school, a private Christian school in Tangerang, it was found that the students’ skills in English vocabulary was low. Therefore, the aim of this research was to see if the use of flashcards could improve students’ cognitive achievements in English vocabulary. This research was conducted from August 13th – November 13th, 2015. The method of this research was a Classroom Action Research (CAR). This CAR consisted of two cycles involving 13 students who were involved. Mentor observation checklist, journal reflection, pre-test, post-test and questionnaires were the instruments that supported the conclusions of the research. The results of the study indicated that Grade 3 in the level (1.5) language students did improve in their in English vocabulary using flashcards./Berdasarkan observasi, yang dilakukan di sebuah kelas Kelas 3 SD XYZ, sebuah sekolah Kristen swasta di daerah Karawaci, ditemukan bahwa rendahnya pemahaman siswa dalam kosa kata Bahasa Inggris. Maka, tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi apakah flashcards dapat membantu siswa kelas 3 untuk meningkatkan kosa kata siswa dalam Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada 03 Juli - 11 November 2015. Penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK), Di dalam PTK ini terdapat dua siklus yang melibatkan 13 siswa. Data dari umpan balik mentor, laporan pengamatan kelas, test tertulis dan questionaire adalah instrumen yang mendukung kesimpulan dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan dari hasil penelitian menunjukan kosa kata siswa Kelas 3 Bahasa Inggris mengalami peningkatan dengan menggunakan flash card yang diajarkan oleh peneliti.
