Abstract

Borax and formalin are examples of banned additives for any kind of food which mentioned in Peraturan Menteri Kesehatan Republik Indonesia Nomor 033 Tahun 2012. However, there were still a lot of cases caused by borax and formalin presence in food; meatball dishes included. According to ANTARA (2015), Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan raided three borax and formalin stores in Kelurahan Sukajadi, Kecamatan Karawaci on May 12, 2015. These stores were selling borax and formalin to street vendors. As researches done, there are many negative effects which caused by accumulation of borax and formalin if ingested by human. The aim of this research was to study the presence of borax and formalin in meatball dishes which consist of meatball, soybean curd, and noodle sold by all idled meatball dishes sellers specifically at Kecamatan Karawaci. Interview method for survey and non-probability judgmental sampling method were applied during the study. From the analysis result, there were found 39 idled meatball dishes sellers; whether permanent kiosk sellers or cart vendors. From all the samples analyzed from meatball dishes sellers at Kecamatan Karawaci, there were 33.33% formalin-positive soybean and 5.13% formalin-positive of meatball; and 2.56% borax-positive meatball. However, there was no borax and formalin presence in all noodle sold by meatball dishes sellers at Kecamatan Karawaci.
