Abstract

Bahasa Inggris telah menjadi bahasa kedua untuk dipelajari di tingkat universitas di Indonesia. Oleh sebab itu, kemampuan membaca dalam bahasa Inggris belum meningkat dengan baik. Maka penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) menyelidiki proses kosakata yang dilakukan secara online dapat mempengaruhi nilai kuis kosakata siswa, (2) menganalisa kuis kosakata siswa yang berdampak pada peningkatan siswa dalam nilai ujian tengah semester mereka, (3) mengidentifikasi siswa dalam menerapkan pembelajaran heutagogy dengan efektif dalam lingkungan belajar secara hybrid, (4) mendeskripsikan kendala-kendala yang dihadapi oleh siswa pada saat mempelajari kosakata secara mandiri dengan cara hybrid. Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Studi Kasus (PSK), yang dilaksanakan dalam 1 siklus pada bulan September 2014. Subyek penelitian ini adalah 44 siswa jurusan Teknologi Informasi semester 3, di universitas swasta, Alam Sutera, Tangerang, Tahun Ajaran 2014-2015, yang terdiri dari 41 siswa laki-laki dan 3 siswa perempuan. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan teknik studi nilai pre-tes diagnosa membaca siswa, nilai kuis kosakata siswa, nilai ujian membaca siswa pada pertengahan semester, catatan wawancara siswa, dan kuesioner siswa secara online. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) daftar kosakata online mempengaruhi nilai kuis kosakata, (2) ada peningkatan dari nilai kuis kosakata yang berdampak pada nilai ujian membaca siswa pada pertengahan semester, (3) pembelajaran heutagogy cukup efektif dalam lingkungan belajar secara hybrid, (4) terdapat kendala yang dialami oleh siswa dalam mempelajari kosakata secara mandiri dengan cara hybrid. / English has been the second language to be learned in the universities in Indonesia. As a result, the reading skills in English language has not been appropriately improved. This study aims to: (1) investigate the process of online vocabulary lists affecting the students’ vocabulary quizzes scores, (2) analyze the vocabulary quizzes scores that impact the students’ improvements in their reading comprehension mid test scores, (3) identify the students in applying heutagogical learning effectively in a hybrid-learning environment, (4) describe the difficulties encountered by the students when they learn vocabulary independently in a hybrid mode. This research was a Case Study Research (CSR), which was applied in 1 cycle in September 2014. The subjects of the study were 44 students of 3rd semester from Information Technology major, in a private university, Tangerang, Academic Year 2014-2015, consisting of 41 males and 3 females students. Data collection techniques applied were reading diagnostic pre-test scores, vocabulary quizzes scores, reading comprehension mid-test scores, field notes of the students’ interview, and online questionnaire. The results indicated: (1) the online vocabulary lists affect the vocabulary quizzes scores, (2) there is improvement from vocabulary quizzes scores that impact the students’ reading comprehension mid test scores, (3) heutagogical learning was effective in a hybrid-learning environment, (4) there were difficulties encountered in learning vocabulary independently in a hybrid-mode.
