Abstract

Latar belakang: Stres Akademik adalah stres yang terjadi dilingkungan pendidikan, akibat adanya ketidaksesuaian antara sumber daya, tekanan dan tuntutan akademik yang seringkali dianggap sebagai beban. Adanya dampak negatif yang ditimbulkan dari stres akademik membutuhkan strategi koping yang efisien. Strategi koping adalah upaya untuk mengurangi, mengelola atau mengatasi stres yang terjadi. Tujuan penelitian: untuk mengetahui gambaran stres akademik dan strategi koping mahasiswa keperawatan tingkat akhir salah satu universitas swasta di Indonesia Barat. Metode penelitian: menggunakan metode kuantitatif deskriptif dengan teknik analisis data univariat.Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa tingkat akhir sebanyak 312 dan sampel berjumlah 176 responden dengan menggunakan simple randomsampling. Instrumen dalam penelitianmenggunakan kuesioner modifikasi stres akademik dan Ways of Coping. Hasil penelitian: 65 mahasiswa (37%) mengalami stres kategori sedang, 59 mahasiswa (33,5%) stres kategori ringan, 27 mahasiswa (15,3%) stres kategori normal, dan 25 mahasiswa (14,2%) stres kategori berat. Sedangkan untuk koping stres yang digunakan hampir seluruhnya yaitu sebanyak 148 mahasiswa (84,1%) menggunakan strategi koping yang berfokus pada masalah sedangkan 28 mahasiswa (15,9%) menggunakan strategi koping yang berfokus pada emosi. Kesimpulan: setiap mahasiswa perlu mengenali stres akademik yang dialami dan memiliki strategi koping stres yang sesuai karena pemilihan strategi koping yang sesuai dapat mempengaruhi keberhasilan akademik. Saran: Melakukan konseling/konsultasi pada pihak terkait jika mengalami tanda/gejala stres serta memotivasi diri untuk menemukan strategi koping yang efisien./ Background: Academic stress is stress that occurs in an educational environment, due to the mismatch between resources, pressure and academic demands which are often seen as a burden. The existence of negative impacts a rising from academic stress is expected to need an efficient coping strategy. Coping strategies are an efforts to reduce, manage or cope with the stress that occurs. Aim: to describe the academic stress and coping strategies of final year nursing students of a private university in West Indonesia. Research method: using descriptive quantitative method with univariate data analysis techniques. Population in this study were 312 final year students with a sample of 176 respondents and using simple random sampling as the sampling technique. The instrument in this study used a modified Academic Stress questionnaire and Ways of Coping questionnaire. Results: 65 students (37%) experienced moderate stress category, 59 students (33.5%) mild stress category, 27 students (15.3%) normal stress category, and 25 students (14.2%) severe stressed category. Whereas for strategies coping, almost of them as many as 148 students (84,1%) used problem-focused coping and 28 students (15,9%) used emotion-focused coping. Conclusion: every student needs to recognize the academic stress experienced and have appropriate stress coping strategies because the selection of appropriate coping strategies can affect academic successfully. Suggestion: Conduct counseling/consultation to related parties if you experience signs or symptoms of stress and motivate yourself to find efficient coping strategies.
