Abstract

Many changes have been made by various organizations and research shows that by making changes, organizational performance can progress rapidly. The successor of PT Senteral Inti Gas Medan, a family business that does gas supplying, is unsure whether the change implementation is worth the effort or not. The purpose of this research is to see how strong is the impact of change management on organizational performance in a family business. From the theory mentioned in a European Journal of Business Management 2017, Vol. 9, No. 9, p. 84, change has become a regular part of business life nowadays, as part of the need to increase organization’s performance. In order for business to survive in the competitive business environment, there is a more rapid need for adapting to changes. This research is using quantitative approach as the research design, with descriptive and causal methods also being used to complete this research. Likert style questionnaires are distributed to all 52 employees of this company as the sample for this research. The result of the research based on z-test and coefficient of determination test is that there is a positive but low relationship between change management and organizational performance at PT Senteral Inti Gas Medan. It is recommended for this company to focus on other factors, for instance, their marketing strategy, that might have a stronger influence for their organizational performance. This research will also help other family businesses to get more knowledge about this topic of study.
