Abstract

The implementation of the 2013 curriculum which is not optimal where teachers still have difficulty in determining learning approach causes students to not be able to develop critical, logical, reflective, metacognitive, and creative thinking skills and result in students having difficulty achieving the minimum values applied by the school. One of the learning method that is considered better in improving students' critical and creative thinking skills is problem-based learning. This study aims to analyze the differences in mastery of English concepts of students, critical and creative thinking skills through the application of problem-based learning. This study used a quantitative research method with a pre-experimental design the one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this study were 8A grade students with 13 students. Based on the results of the gain index calculation, the pre-test and post-test data obtained a value of 0.52, which means an increase in the medium category. In the hypothesis test the mastery of the Wilcoxon test concept with the results of the sig value. 0.002 which means smaller than 0.052 so the hypothesis is accepted. In critical and creative thinking skills the results of the calculation of the average value of students are 79 and 76. Based on the results of data analysis it can be concluded that the application of problem-based learning can help improve mastery concepts of English, students' critical and creative thinking skills. / Penerapan kurikulum 2013 yang belum optimal dimana guru masih mengalami kesulitan dalam menentukan metode pembelajaran menyebabkan peserta didik belum dapat mengembangkan keterampilan berpikir kritis, logis, reflektif, metakognitif, dan berpikir kreatif dan mengakibatkan peserta didik kesulitan dalam mencapai nilai minimum yang diterapkan sekolah. Salah satu metode pembelajaran yang dinilai lebih baik dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan kreatif peserta didik adalah pembelajaran berbasis masalah. Pnelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perbedaan penguasaan konsep bahasa Inggris peserta didik, keterampilan berpikir kritis dan kreatif melalui penerapan pembelajaran berbasis masalah. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitaif dengan rancangan pre experimental design the one group pretestposttest. Subjek penelitian ini adalah peserta didik kelas 8A dengan jumlah 13 peserta didik. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan indeks gain data pre-test dan posttest diperoleh nilai 0.52 yang berarti terjadi peningkatan dalam kategori sedang. Dalam uji hipotesis penguasaan konsep uji Wilcoxon dengan hasil nilai sig. 0.002 yang berarti lebih kecil dari 0.05 sehingga hipotesis dterima. Pada keterampilan berpikir kritis dan kreatif hasil perhitungan nilai rata-rata peserta didik adalah 79 dan 76. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan pembelajaran berbasis masalah dapat membantu meningkatkan penguasaan konsep bahasa Inggris, keterampilan berpikir kritis dan kreatif peserta didik.
