Abstract

Based on the observation that the researcher done, in a Christian school Lampung, there are 3 out of 16 students (19%) able to achieve Minimum Passing Grade (KKM), 70, determined by the school on their quiz about Simple Present Tense. When students were in the teaching and learning process, students were actively involved and able to answer the teacher’s question correctly. But the quiz result showed that the students were having problem in passing the KKM of English subject. Therefore, it is concluded that the main issue is the students’ cognitive achievement in English subject. The researcher then implemented Drill Method to enhance students’ cognitive achievement result. This research done by implementing the Classroom Action Research (CAR) by Pelton, within August 13, 2018 until October 22, 2018. The data collected for this research were lesson plan, mentor’s feedback, journal reflection, and students’ test result. From the research data collected, there were 13 students (81%) able to pass the Minimum Passing Grade (KKM), 70, on the first Plan Activation and 16 students (100%) students on the second Plan Activation. Based on the result, it can be concluded that Drill Method is able to enhance students’ cognitive achievement in English subject./ Berdasarkan hasil observasi yang dilakukan oleh peneliti, ditemukan hanya ada 3 orang siswa dari total 16 siswa (19%) yang mampu mencapai Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimum (KKM), 70, yang ditentukan oleh sekolah pada kuis Simple Present Tense. Dalam proses belajar mengajar, siswa aktif terlibat di dalam kelas dan mampu menjawab pertanyaan guru dengan benar. Sedangkan, hasil kuis siswa menunjukkan siswa memiliki permasalahan dalam mencapai KKM pada pelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Oleh karena itu, disimpulkan bahwa terdapat masalah pada siswa dalam mencapai hasil belajar kognitif mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Peneliti kemudian menggunakan metode Drill untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar kognitif siswa. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan model Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) menurut Pelton, pada rentang waktu 13 Agustus 2018 sampai 22 Oktober 2018. Instrumen yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran (RPP), umpan balik mentor, jurnal refleksi, dan tes. Menurut data penelitian yang didapat, terdapat 13 siswa (81%) mampu mencapai nilai KKM, 70, pada penerapan pertama dan 16 siswa (100%) pada penerapan kedua. Berdasarkan hasil yang didapat, dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode Drill mampu meningkatkan hasil belajar kognitif siswa pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris.
