Abstract

Kemampuan membaca merupakan salah satu kemampuan berbahasa yang penting dan dibutuhkan oleh siswa dalam memasuki jenjang sekolah. Berdasarkan pengamatan yang dilakukan pada siswa kelas I di salah satu sekolah Kristen di Tomohon, didapati bahwa Siswa masih belum mampu dalam membaca setiap kata yang guru tampilkan pada papan tulis dan tidak dapat mengerjakan soal latihan yang diberikan. Hal ini dikarenakan beberapa faktor yaitu kondisi siswa yang masih dalam tahap peralihan dari jenjang Taman Kanak-kanak yang terbiasa dengan bermain dibandingkan belajar menjadikannya kurang memiliki keinginan untuk belajar membaca, kemampuan berbahasa atau pemahaman kosakata yang dimiliki, dan kurang dibiasakan dan diajarkan membaca. Oleh karena itu, penulis menerapkan metode Struktural Analitik Sintetik bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa kelas I. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK dengan menggunakan model PTK dari Robert Pelton. Penelitian ini dilakukan sebanyak dua kali tindakan. Tindakan 1 berlangsung pada tanggal 9 dan 11 Oktober 2018, sedangkan tindakan 2 berlangsung pada tanggal 16 dan 18 Oktober 2018. Subjek penelitian sebanyak 24 siswa. Sumber data yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah lembar evaluasi guru mentor, wawancara, observasi mentor, checklist penerapan metode,dan jurnal refleksi yang dianalisis dengan kuantitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan metode SAS dalam proses pembelajaran membaca, dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari indikator 1: mengenal huruf meningkat dari 83% menjadi 100%, indikator 2: mengenal kosakata dari 83% menjadi 96%, dan indikator 3: memahami makna kalimat dari 71% menjadi 88%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan SAS dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa. /Reading ability is one of linguistic skills which important and needed by student when they begin to enter school stages. Based on the observation of grade I students at one Christian school in Tomohon, the researcher found out that students were not be able to read every words that presented by the teacher on the board, also the could not be able to finish the given assignment. This condition was caused by some factors which are the condition of the students that in phase transition from Kindergarden that used to play rather than learn how to read, their language ability or their understanding toward vocabulary that they have, also they were not used to and taught how to read. Therefore, the researcher conducted Synthetic Structural Analytic Method ton improve reading ability of grade I students. The method which use in this research is Classroom Action Research of Robert Pelton model. The research was conducted twice. The first one was on 9 and 11 of October 2018, while the second one was held on 16 and 18 October 2018. The subject of the research were evaluation sheet from mentor, interview sheet, mentor’s observation sheet, checklist of the method implementation, and reflective journal, also it was presented as quantitative descriptive data. The research resulted that SAS method in reading learning process can improve students’ initial reading ability. It seen from the improvement of indicator 1 percentage from 83% to 100%, and indicator 2, vocabulary recognition percentage from 83% to 96%, also indicator 3, understanding the meaning of the sentence from 71% to 88%. The implementation of Synthetic Structural Analytic conducted with three steps which are 1) Structural, 2) Analytic 3) Synthetic. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that the implementation of Syntetic Structual Analytic can improve students’ initial reading ability.
