Abstract

Pemahaman konsep adalah dasar pemikiran untuk mengaitkan satu teori dengan teori lain untuk dapat memahami makna pembelajaran dan menerapkannya di dalam kehidupan. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan berdasarkan hasil identifikasi masalah yang dilakukan di kelas X MIA Sekolah Lentera Harapan Jatiagung. Berdasarkan hasil identifikasi masalah ditemukan bahwa masalah utama yang terjadi adalah kurangnya pemahaman konsep siswa pada pembelajaran biologi. Salah satu penyebab kurangnya pemahaman konsep siswa adalah penerapan metode pembelajaran yang berpusat pada guru. Maka dari itu, diterapkan model pembelajaran learning cycle 5E untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut. Penerapan model pembelajaran learning cycle 5E ini diharapkan dapat membantu siswa untuk lebih mudah dalam memaShami konsep pembelajaran. Penelitian yang dilakukan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas model Pelton. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada Selasa, 14 Agustus 2018 sampai dengan Selasa, 23 Oktober 2018 selama 12 kali pertemuan dengan responden sebanyak 21 siswa. Penerapan metode learning cycle 5E dilakukan sebanyak satu kali dengan dua kali pertemuan. Instrument yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah umpan balik, jurnal refleksi, ceklis, angket dan hasil tes. Analisa data yang dilakukan menggunakan rumus matematika sederhana dan secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran learning cycle 5E dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa melalui langkah-langkah yaitu engagement, exploration, explanation, elaboration dan evaluation. Peningkatan pemahaman konsep terlihat dari indikator pemahaman konsep yaitu menjelaskan ulang, menafsirkan, mengidentifikasi dan memberikan contoh konsep yang meningkat masing-masing sebesar 95,23%, 90,47%, 85,71% dan 42,85%. / Conceptual understanding is a rationale to relate a theory with others theory with an aim to understand the meaning of learning and apply it in daily life. This research was done based on issue identification in X MIA Class at SLH Jatiagung. Researcher found that the main problem appeared is students had low conceptual understanding in Biology. One of the causes of this problem was teacher used teacher-centered learning method. To overcome the problem, the researcher implemented learning cycle 5E. The implementation of learning cycle 5E was expected to be able to help the students to understand the learning concept easier. The research model used was class action research (CAR) with Pelton model. The research was done in 12 meetings from August 14, 2018 to October 23, 2018 with 21 subjects. The implementation of learning cycle method was done once in two meetings. The instruments used were feedback, journal reflection, checklist, questionnaire, and test result. The data was analyzed using simple mathematics formula and descriptive analysis. The results of this research show that the learning cycle 5E model can improve student’s conceptual understanding through the step of engagement, exploration, explanation, elaboration and evaluation. The improvement of student’s conceptual understanding can be seen from the indicators of conceptual understanding which are, re-explaining, referring/interpreting, identifying and giving an example of concept that was increased into 95,23%, 90,47%, 85,71% and 42,85%.
