Abstract

Discipline is a prominent factor in achieving learning objectives. Therefore, efforts to reach discipline is greatly needed. Observation on Grade VII students in a Christian school in Pangkal Pinang revealed that the students had problems regarding discipline. This research intends to improve the discipline of the students through the implementation of behavioral consequences. The method that is used in this research is Classroom Action Research by Robert P. Pelton. The behavioral consequences were applied on 22 students from August 15th 2018 until October 17th 2018. The data were obtained from sources such as lesson plans, reflection journal, feedback and observation paper, meanwhile the method that is used to analyze the data is descriptive analysis. The result of this research shows that applying behavioral consequences could improve the discipline of the Grade VII students in a Christian school in Pangkal Pinang. The improvement can be observed based on three actions of implementation, specified to 90% in the first implementation, 89% in the second implementation, and 98% in the third implementation. The implementation of behavioral consequences could improve discipline through five stages such as: (1) planning the learning objectives in affective terms, (2) determining the behavioral target that needs to be changed or improved, (3) applying positive consequences through positive reinforcement if the class’ rules and procedures are done right, (4) applying negative consequences through punishment if the class’ rules and procedures are not done, and (5) measuring the change of behavior.
