Abstract

Berdasarkan latar belakang masalah, ditemukan bahwa sebagian besar siswa kelas VIII di SMPK ABC memiliki pemahaman konsep yang rendah pada pelajaran matematika. Hal ini terlihat dari hasil kuis dan ulangan sebagian besar siswa yang tidak mencapai Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (71), oleh karena itu dipilih penerapan metode pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD (Student Teams Achievement Divisions) untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah penerapan metode pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa kelas VIII pada pelajaran matematika dan bagaimana penerapan metode pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa kelas VIII pada pelajaran matematika. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) model Kemmis dan McTaggart yang terdiri dari dua siklus ini melibatkan 25 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah lembar kuis siswa, lembar observasi penerapan metode, lembar observasi aktivitas belajar dan bekerja siswa, lembar angket siswa, lembar wawancara guru mentor dan siswa, serta jurnal refleksi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik analisis deskriptif kualitatif dan kuantitatif melalui statistik deskriptif sederhana. Berdasarkan hasil data yang dikumpulkan dari seluruh instrumen tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa kelas VIII pada pelajaran matematika./ Based on the background of the study, it was found that most of the grade VIII students at SMPK ABC had low conceptual understanding in mathematics. It was seen from most of the students did not meet the passing grade (71%) on a prior mathematics quiz and test. Therefore, the implementation of STAD (Student Teams Achievement Divisions) method in order was chosen to solve this problem. The aims of this research were to know whether or not the implementation of the STAD method could increase grade VIII students’ conceptual understanding in mathematics and to find out how the implementation of the STAD method could increase grade VIII students’ conceptual understanding in mathematics. The research method used was Kemmis and McTaggart’s Classroom Action Research (CAR), which consisted of two cycles with 25 students. The instruments used to collect data were students’ quiz sheet, method implementation observation sheet, students’ activities sheet, students’ questionnaire, teacher mentor and students interview sheet, and reflection journal. The data analysis techniques used in this research were qualitative descriptive analysis technique and quantitative analysis technique through simple descriptive statistics. Based on the resulting data gathered from the instruments, it could be concluded that the implementation of the STAD method could increase grade VIII students’ conceptual understanding in mathematics.
