Abstract
Berdasarkan hasil prasiklus, sebagian besar siswa kurang menguasai konsep matematika yang dipelajari untuk memecahkan persoalan. Siswa lupa dengan rumus atau metode yang telah diajarkan dalam mengerjakan soal. Siswa kebingungan dalam menuliskan langkah-langkah pengerjaannya, akibatnya siswa perlu dibimbing lagi secara personal oleh guru. Dikarenakan keterbatasan waktu dan tenaga, maka tidak semua siswa dapat dibimbing secara personal. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, peneliti menerapkan modifikasi metode pair checks. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu mengetahui penguasaan konsep siswa kelas Xpada materi sistem persamaan dan pertidaksamaan linear dapat meningkat melalui modifikasi metode pair checks, dan menjelaskan modifikasi metode pair checks dalam meningkatkan penguasaan konsep siswa kelas X pada materi sistem persamaan dan pertidaksamaan linear. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) model Kemmis dan McTaggart yang berlangsung selama dua siklus. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mendapatkan informasi dalam penelitian ini yaitu lembar pre-test dan post-test, lembar kuesioner siswa, lembar wawancara mentor, lembar umpan balik mentor, dan jurnal refleksi. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa modifikasi metode pair checks yang memiliki penyajian informasi kompetensi, pendemonstrasian pengetahuan dan keterampilan prosedural, kegiatan secara berpasangan menyajikan soal, mengecek kebenaran, dan memecahkan persoalan dapat meningkatkan penguasaan konsep siswa kelas X pada materi sistem persamaan dan pertidaksamaan linear di Sekolah ABC Ambon. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa modifikasi metode pair checks tepat digunakan untuk meningkatkan penguasaan konsep siswa. / Based on the pre-cycle result, most of the students had difficulty in mastering mathematical concepts to solve the problem. They often forget the mathematics formula or method which has been taught. Students got confused when they were describing the mathematics step, so the students need to be guided personally by the teacher. But due to limited time and energy, not all students can be guided personally. To solve this problem, researcher implemented modified pair checks method. The purpose of this research is to know the mastery concept of class X on the topic linear equation and inequation system that can be improved through modified pair checks method, and to explain the modified pair checks method in improving tenth grade’s mastery concept on the topic linear equation and inequation system. The research method that was used is Class Action Research (CAR) modelled by Kemmis and McTaggart with two cycle. Instruments which used in this research was pre-test and post-test form, students’ questionnaire, mentor interview, mentor feedback, and reflection journal. The result showed that modified pair checks method which has presentation of information competency, demonstrating knowledge and procedural skills, presenting problems activity, checking truth, and problem solving in pairs can improve tenth grade’s conceptual mastering on the topic linear equation and inequation system in a ABC School in Ambon. It can be concluded that the modified pair checks method is the right method that can be used to increase students' mastery of concepts.
