Abstract

Film adalah salah satu media massa yang berpengaruh besar karena film dapat menggambarkan realitas sosial yang terjadi di kehidupan bermasyarakat melalui sifat nya yang audio dan visual. Dengan menonton film akan memberikan berbagai efek terhadap khalayak luas secara langsung maupun tidak langsung. Pesan-pesan yang disampaikan melalui film juga dapat mempengaruhi pola pikir seseorang/sekelompok orang yang menonton. Film The Blind Side merupakan film Hollywood yang diproduksi pada tahun 2009. Film yang mengangkat kisah nyata ini menceritakan mengenai bagaimana seorang anak Afro-Amerika yang akhirnya menjadi pemain football profesional setelah diadopsi dan tinggal dengan lingkungan yang mayoritas berkulit putih. Hal ini tentu saja menimbulkan adanya rasisme yang terjadi kepadanya. Oleh sebab itu penelitian ini dilakukan untuk meneliti apakah sebuah film dapat menggambarkan rasisme yang sesungguhnya terjadi di kehidupan masyarakat saat ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitian analisis semiotika. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara mengumpulkan scene yang berupa tangkapan adegan-adegan dalam film The Blind Side yang menggambarkan rasisme secara visual dan verbal. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa film The Blind Side adalah salah satu film yang dapat menggambarkan rasisme yang terjadi di Amerika karena memperlihatkan adegan-adegan yang memperlihatkan tindak rasisme, sehingga orang yang menonton akan memahami bagaimana rasisme yang ada di Amerika Serikat./Film is one of the mass media that has a big influence because a film can describe the social reality that occurs in social life through its audio and visual characteristics. By watching a film, it will have various effects on a broad audience directly or indirectly. The messages conveyed through films can also influence the mindset of a person / group of people watching. The Blind Side movie is a Hollywood movie produced in 2009. This true story film tells the story of an African-American boy who eventually becomes a professional football player after being adopted and living in a predominantly white environment. This of course gives rise to racism that occurs to him. Therefore, this research was conducted to examine whether a film can depict racism that actually occurs in today's society. This study uses a qualitative approach with semiotic analysis research methods. Data collection was done by collecting scenes in the form of captures of scenes in the film The Blind Side which depict racism visually and verbally. The results of this study indicate that the film The Blind Side is one of the films that can depict racism in America because it shows scenes that show acts of racism, so that people who watch will understand how racism exists in the United States.
