Abstract
The development of information and communication technology has changed the
way people live. Technology becomes inseparable in the daily lives of many people.
The number of internet users far exceeds the actual population in Indonesia.
According to the We Are Social Survey (2016), in 2014, the population in Indonesia
is 252.4 million people and the number of internet users is 88.1 million people. By
2016, Indonesia's population is 256.2 million people the number of internet users is
132.7 million people. Within only two years, the growth rate of the population is at
0.015% while the growth rate of the number of internet users is 150%. According
to the agency, the penetration of internet users in Indonesia is heavily dominated by
students. As many as 89.7% of students use the internet in their daily life. The speed
of smartphone usage has also increased among other media. From 2015 to 2016,
the duration of smartphone usage has increased from 190 minutes to 213 minutes.
This is different from the duration of the use of other media such as computers and
television that has declined. The type of internet content most widely accessed in
Indonesia is social media with a number of 97.4% out of the population of internet
users. This fact sparks the interest of the research to pursue this research.
The purpose of this study is to look at the influence of Social Needs, Social
Influences, and Convenience on Student Dependence on Smartphones. This study
is also to see the effect of Student Dependence on Smartphone towards their
Purchase Behavior. This research was done to 200 students at Universitas Pelita
Harapan Karawaci. The data completion method that was used is the nonprobability sampling technique with convenience sampling method. The data
collected was then processed with the multiple regression method using the SPSS
program version 22. The results show that Social Needs affects signicicantly to
Student Dependence on Smartphone, Social Impact affects signicicantly to Student
Dependence on Smartphone, Convenience affects signicicantly Student
Dependence on Smartphone, and Student Dependence on Smartphone affects
signicicantly to Purchase Behavior. Based on the results of these studies, the authors
make implications and suggestions for further research. / Perkembangan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi telah mengubah gaya hidup
manusia. Teknologi menjadi hal yang tak terpisahkan dalam keseharian banyak
orang. Pertumbuhan jumlah pengguna internet jauh melebihi pertumbuhan jumlah
penduduk di Indonesia. Menurut survei We Are Social (2016), pada tahun 2014,
jumlah penduduk di Indonesia yaitu 252,4 juta orang dan jumlah pengguna internet
yaitu 88,1 juta orang. Tetapi pada tahun 2016, jumlah penduduk Indonesia yaitu
256,2 juta orang sedangkan jumlah pengguna internet yaitu 132,7 juta orang. Dapat
diketahui, bahwa di dalam kurun waktu dua tahun, pertumbuhan jumlah penduduk
hanya sebanyak 0,015% sedangkan pertumbuhan jumlah pengguna internet
sebanyak 150%. Menurut lembaga tersebut, penetrasi pengguna internet di
Indonesia didominasi oleh mahasiswa. Sebanyak 89,7% mahasiswa menggunakan
internet dalam keseharian mereka. Durasi penggunaan smartphone juga mengalami
peningkatan di antara media lain. Dari tahun 2015 ke tahun 2016, durasi
penggunaan smartphone mengalami peningkatan dari 190 menit menjadi 213
menit. Hal ini berbeda dengan durasi penggunaan media lain seperti komputer dan
televisi yang mengalami penurunan. Jenis konten internet yang paling banyak
diakses di Indonesia yaitu media sosial. Sebanyak 97,4% orang mengakses media
sosial. Hal tersebut yang membuat peneliti tertarik untuk meneliti penelitian ini.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat pengaruh Kebutuhan Sosial,
Pengaruh Sosial, dan Kenyamanan terhadap Kebergantungan Mahasiswa pada
Smartphone. Penelitian ini juga untuk melihat pengaruh Kebergantungan
Mahasiswa pada Smartphone terhadap Perilaku Membeli. Penelitian ini dilakukan
pada 200 orang mahasiswa di Universitas Pelita Harapan Karawaci. Teknik
pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik non-probability sampling dengan metode
convenience sampling. Data yang yang diperoleh kemudian diolah dengan metode
multiple regression, menggunakan program SPSS versi 22. Hasil penelitian
menunjukkan bahwa Kebutuhan Sosial berpengaruh signifikan terhadap
Kebergantungan Mahasiswa pada Smartphone, Pengaruh Sosial berpengaruh
signifikan terhadap Kebergantungan Mahasiswa pada Smartphone, Kenyamanan
berpengaruh signifikan terhadap Kebergantungan Mahasiswa pada Smartphone,
dan Kebergantungan Mahasiswa pada Smartphone berpengaruh signifikan terhadap
Perilaku Membeli, Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, penulis membuat
implikasi dan saran untuk penelitian selanjutnya.
