Kekerasan di Indonesia meningkat selama pandemi Corona. Salah satu kasus kejahatan kekerasan yang menjadi perhatian publik adalah kasus pembunuhan yang dilakukan oleh seorang remaja, karena terinspirasi dari film yang bernuansa kekerasan. Sebagai salah satu media massa yang populer, film tidak hanya merepresentasikan realitas dunia nyata, tapi sebaliknya, film juga dapat menjadi inspirasi bagi penonton untuk melakukan hal-hal yang mereka lihat. Pada tahun 2019, Hollywood memunculkan film Joker yang kontroversial di masyarakat. Kontroversi tersebut karena film Joker menyuguhkan cerita dan adegan kekerasan yang realistis, sehingga banyak penonton yang bersimpati pada Joker yang notabene adalah penjahat, namun masa lalunya adalah korban dari banyak kekerasan. Di sisi lain, cerita dan adegan kekerasan yang realistis tersebut dikhawatirkan dapat menginspirasi penonton untuk melakukan kekerasan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui representasi kekerasan yang dialami oleh tokoh Arthur Fleck dalam film Joker. Untuk mendapatkan jawaban penelitian, peneliti menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode analisis semiotika Roland Barthes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kekerasan direpresentasikan sebagai hal yang lumrah, walaupun merugikan korbannya. Sebagai korban dari banyaknya kekerasan yang dialaminya, kemudian kekerasan tersebut menjadi legitimasi bagi Arthur untuk melakukan kekerasan juga. / Violence in Indonesia has increased during the Corona pandemic. One of the cases of violent crime that has come to the attention of the public is a murder case committed by a teenager, because she was inspired by a violent film. As one of the popular mass media, films do not only represent real world reality, but on the contrary, films can also be an inspiration for viewers to do the things they see. In 2019, Hollywood brought out the controversial Joker film in society. The controversy was because the Joker film presents realistic stories and scenes of violence, thus making many viewers sympathize with the Joker, who in fact is a criminal, but whose past was the victim of a lot of violence. On the other hand, it was feared that these realistic stories and scenes of violence can inspire viewers to commit violence. The purpose of this study was to determine the representation of violence experienced by the character Arthur Fleck in the Joker film. To get the answers, the researcher used a descriptive qualitative approach with the semiotic analysis method of Roland Barthes. The results showed that violence was represented as commonplace, even though it was detrimental to the victim. As a victim of many violences he experienced, then those violences became a legitimacy for Arthur to commit violence as well.
