Abstract

The skills delivered the opinion in Junior High School XYZ only possessed by a few students, most students are able to apply while others are passive. Those who have the capabilities above average tends to be more active compared with that being even less. Students are very passively because they does not dare to answer the teacher's question if not appointed. The application of the method of debate expected students to get active learning in the classroom and shared the idea that has to share to others. The purpose of this research was to analyze the increased of the ability of conveying opinions, motivation, and mastery of the concept of using the method of debate. The research design used the one group pretestt-posttest design on the Indonesian Language subject with number of 25 students. Research instrument in the form of tests and observations of teachers based on the rubric. Data analysis techniques using is descriptive statistics and inferensial. Test hypotheses using the Wilcoxon test. The research results obtained 1) The method of debate improve student’s ability to convey opinions, 2) The method of debate improve student’s motivation, 3) The method of debate improve student’s mastery of the concept. / Kemampuan menyampaikan pendapat di SMP XYZ hanya dikuasai oleh beberapa siswa, sebagian mampu mempraktikkannya sedangkan yang lain pasif. Mereka yang memiliki kemampuan di atas rata-rata cenderung lebih aktif dibandingkan dengan yang sedang bahkan kurang. Siswa sangat pasif karena tidak berani menjawab pertanyaan guru apabila tidak ditunjuk. Penerapan metode debat diharapkan siswa mampu mendapatkan pembelajaran yang aktif di kelas dan menuangkan gagasannya untuk dikemukakan kepada orang lain. Tujuan penelitian ini menganalisis peningkatan kemampuan menyampaikan pendapat, motivasi, dan penguasaan konsep menggunakan metode debat. Desain penelitian yang digunakan the one group pretestt-posttest design dilakukan pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia dengan jumlah 25 siswa. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes dan pengamatan guru berdasarkan rubrik. Teknik analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan inferensial. Uji hipotesis menggunakan uji Wilcoxon. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh 1) Metode debat dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menyampaikan pendapat menggunakan metode debat. 2) Metode debat dapat meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa. 3) Metode debat dapat meningkatkan penguasaan konsep debat siswa.
