Abstract
IPA merupakan mata pelajaran yang luas dan mengandung istilah-istilah yang
sulit dipahami termasuk materi sistem pencernaan manusia. Bagi siswa kelas VIII
dengan karakteristik yang gemar berinteraksi dengan satu sama lain, pembelajaran
di dalam kelompok yang dapat melibatkan setiap siswa secara aktif dapat
membantu siswa dalam pemahaman mereka secara maksimal. Oleh sebab itu,
peneliti menerapkan metode pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD untuk
meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa dalam materi sistem pencernaan
manusia. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengetahui prosedur metode STAD
dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep.
Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK).
Penelitian melibatkan 22 siswa kelas VIII yang terdiri dari 14 siswa laki-laki dan
8 siswa perempuan. Variabel penelitian yang digunakan adalah pemahaman
konsep dan metode STAD. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah lembar
observasi ceklis, angket siswa, tes tertulis, dan jurnal refleksi peneliti.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan metode STAD dapat
meningkatkan pemahaman konsep sistem pencernaan manusia kelas VIII SMP
XYZ. Peningkatan dapat dilihat dari indikator pemahaman konsep PK-1 yang
memperoleh presentase kelulusan sebesar 59,09% di siklus I dan 100% di siklus
II, serta pada indikator PK-2 yang memperoleh presentase kelulusan sebesar
63,63% di siklus I dan 86,36% di siklus II yang diukur dengan lembar tes siswa.
Metode STAD dalam pembelajaran dapat diterapkan dengan menyampaikan
tujuan dan memotivasi siswa, mempresentasikan materi, mengelompokkan siswa,
membimbing pembelajaran kelompok siswa, mengevaluasi, dan memberikan
penghargaan. / Science is a broad subject and contains many glossology including human
digestive system. For grade VIII students whose characteristic enjoys to interact
with each other, a group learning which involve the students actively is able to
develop their understanding optimally. Therefore, researcher decided to apply the
STAD method to improve students understanding in human digestive system.
This research is also aimed to determine the procedures of STAD method to
improve conceptual understanding.
The research method used Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research
involved 22 grade VIII students which consisted 14 male and 8 female students.
The variables used in this research are conceptual understanding and STAD
method. The instruments used are check-list observation sheet, student
questionnaire, student test sheet, and researcher‟s journal of reflections.
The result showed that the application of STAD method can improve the
understanding of the concept of the human digestive system for grade VIII SMP
XYZ students. The improvement can be seen from the percentage of indicator
PK-1 is 59,09% in cycle I and 100% in cycle II, and also the percentage of
indicator PK-2 is 63,63% in cyle I and 86,36% in cycle II as measured by the
student test instrument. STAD method can be applied by delivering objectives and
motivations for students, presenting the materials, grouping students, guiding
every groups in learning, evaluating students, and appreciating students.
