Abstract
Pemahaman akan sebuah konsep membuat siswa mudah dalam menerima
materi pembelajaran yang diberikan, khususnya pada mata pelajaran IPA Biologi
yang terkesan dengan banyaknya istilah-istilah yang sulit. Hal ini tentunya
membuat siswa harus dapat memahami tujuan mereka mempelajari suatu materi.
Kenyataan yang peneliti temukan pada siswa-siswi kelas VIII SMP ABC Lampung
memiliki pemahaman konseptual yang kurang. Berdasarkan masalah tersebut,
model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD dipilih sebagai solusi atas permasalahan
tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui cara penerapan pembelajaran
kooperatif tipe STAD dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa.
Metode penelitian yang digunakan peneliti adalah penelitian tindakan kelas
(PTK) model Kemmis dan Taggart yang berlangsung selama dua siklus. Subjek
penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP yang terdiri dari 16 orang siswa.
Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan instrumen-instrumen berupa
lembar observasi, lembar angket, lembar tes, dan jurnal refleksi. Hasil tes yang
didapatkan pada siklus 1 sampai siklus 2 dari setiap indikator pemahaman konsep
adalah sebagai berikut, menjelaskan kembali suatu konsep (94%, 88%),
memberikan contoh (19-63%), mengklasifikasi (69-76%), membandingkan (75-
81%).
Berdasarkan perolehan hasil, penerapan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe
STAD dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep Gerak Tumbuhan bagi siswa kelas
VIII SMP ABC. Hal ini terbukti dari perolehan nilai setiap siswa, jumlah siswa
yang mencapai KKM dan telah memenuhi kriteria keberhasilan siklus, yaitu lebih
dari 75% jumlah siswa kelas VIII SMP ABC. Melalui tahap-tahap pada penerapan
pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD yaitu menyampaikan tujuan pembelajaran dan
memotivasi siswa, menyampaikan informasi, mengorganisasikan siswa ke dalam
kelompok belajar, membimbing kelompok bekerja dan belajar, evaluasi, serta
memberikan penghargaan, mampu meningkatkan pemahaman konsep Gerak
Tumbuhan bagi siswa kelas VIII SMP ABC. / Student’s concept understanding in Biology in which many difficult terms
would be making them easier to receive the lesson given. That was a must for them
to know why would they learned the material. The researcher found students in
grade VIII ABC Lampung in understanding concept of biology was low. Therefore,
the researcher implemented cooperative learning STAD model that was expected
to overcome the problem found. The objectives of this research were to know how
to implemented cooperative learning STAD model in improving student’s concept
understanding in Biology.
Research method used was Kemmis and Taggart’s Class Action Research
(CAR) models that lasted for two cycles. The subject of this research was grade
VIII students consisted of 16 students. Instruments used were observation paper,
questionnaire, test paper, researcher’s reflection journal to collect the data. Based
on the test given in first cycle until the second cycle from each indicator were
explaining back a concept (94%, 88%), giving an example (19-63%), classifying
(69-76%), comparing (75-81%).
Based on the research, it was concluded that the implementation of
cooperative learning STAD model can improve student’s concept understanding in
the material of plant’s motion in grade VIII SMP ABC. This was evident from
achievement result of each students, number of students reached minimum score,
and met criteria of success of the cycle which was more than 75% of students in
grade VIII. By the stages that had done in implementing cooperative learning STAD
model were delivered lesson’s goal, informations, motivated students, organized
students in group learning, controlled group work and study, evaluated, and also
appreciated students showed that STAD model can improve student’s concept
understanding in the material of plant’s motion in grade VIII SMP ABC.
