Abstract

Kemampuan berpikir kritis merupakan komponen esensial yang perlu dikembangkan dalam pendidikan abad ke-21. Fakta yang terjadi dalam pembelajaran kelas VIII pada salah satu sekolah di kota Tangerang, terdapat murid yang belum memenuhi indikator berpikir kritis, yakni interpretasi, analisis, dan eksplanasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji penerapan strategi pembelajaran berbasis masalah dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis murid kelas VIII pada pembelajaran IPA. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian, yaitu kualitatif deskriptif dengan lima fokus kajian. Guru Kristen memiliki peran penting dalam mencapai tujuan pendidikan Kristen dengan membimbing pemahaman dan pemikiran kritis murid yang didasarkan pada prinsip kebenaran Firman Allah. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa penerapan strategi pembelajaran berbasis masalah berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis murid kelas VIII pada pembelajaran IPA, terbukti dari peningkatan persentase yang dicapai murid kelas VIII dari setiap indikator berpikir kritis setelah penerapan SPBM, yaitu indikator interpretasi dari 85,7% menjadi 100%, indikator analisis dari 80% menjadi 87,8%, dan indikator eksplanasi dari 80% menjadi 91,8%. Saran dalam penggunaan SPBM, yaitu perlu diperhatikan jenis kegiatan yang dipilih, manajemen waktu dengan baik, dan menggunakan studi kasus terbaru serta relevan bagi murid./ Critical thinking skills are an essential component that needs to be developed in 21st century education. The fact that occurred in class VIII learning at one of the schools in Tangerang City was that there were students who did not meet the critical thinking indicators, namely interpretation, analysis, and explanation. This research aims to examine the application of problem-based learning strategies in improving the critical thinking skills of class VIII students in science learning. The method used in the research is descriptive qualitative with five research focuses. Christian teachers have an important role in achieving the goals of Christian education by guiding students' understanding and critical thinking based on the principles of the truth of God's Word. The results of the research revealed that the application of problem-based learning strategies succeeded in improving the critical thinking skills of class VIII students in science learning, as evidenced by the increase in the percentage achieved by class VIII students of each critical thinking indicator after implementing SPBM, namely the interpretation indicator from 85.7% to 100%, analysis indicators from 80% to 87.8%, and explanation indicators from 80% to 91.8%. Suggestions for using SPBM include paying attention to the type of activity chosen, good time management, and using the latest case studies that are relevant to students.
