Abstract

High school students using Google Translate (GT) to overcome writing difficulties. However, students should know how to use GT effectively in order to gain its possibilities. This study aims to explain the importance of teacher’s role as a guide and elaborate how the teachers take this role to help the students overcome their writing difficulties using GT. The research method used in this study is qualitative-descriptive method. The result of this study shows that teacher’s role as a guide is very important to help the students to be transformed in their behavior of using GT. There are five techniques implemented by the teachers in guiding the students: 1) demonstrate the positive and negative sides of GT, 2) demonstrate the effective strategies in using GT, 3) introduce alternatives, 4) give feedback towards students’ writing, 5) remind students of the effective strategies in using GT. The teachers have to promote critical thinking in using GT among the students. In addition, future researchers explore other pedagogical techniques that implemented to guide the students in using GT./Siswa SMA menggunakan Google Translate (GT) untuk mengatasi kesulitan dalam menulis.
