Abstract
The formation of self-identity is an important phase in a teenager's life which is greatly influenced by the presence of adults around the teenager. The closest adults for teenagers are parents. However, there are many factors that prevent parents from playing an optimal role in supporting the process of forming a teenager's self-identity. Therefore, school as the second place after home where teenagers spend a lot of time must see this condition as an entry point to support the process of forming teenagers' self-identity. Teachers as adults, in spite of parents, have a great opportunity to be present in the lives of teenagers (middle and high school students) and can play a role in the process of forming teenagers' self-identity. This research aims to explore the role of Christian teachers as transformational leaders in the process of forming students' self-identity at BCS school. This research used qualitative methods by interviewing eight teachers and nine students at BCS Middle School and High School in Manado. The research results concluded that: (1) The role of Christian teachers must be attached to their identity as disciples of Christ; (2) As a transformational leader, teachers must build relationships with students and become shepherds for their students; and (3) Teachers must be friends with students to be involved in the process of forming students' self-identity. / Pembentukan identitas diri merupakan salah satu fase penting dalam hidup remaja yang sangat dipengaruhi oleh kehadiran orang dewasa di sekitar remaja. Orang dewasa terdekat bagi remaja adalah orang tua. Akan tetapi, ada banyak faktor yang menjadi penghambat orang tua tidak dapat berperan secara optimal dalam mendukung proses pembentukan identitas diri remaja. Oleh karena itu, sekolah sebagai tempat kedua setelah rumah di mana remaja banyak menghabiskan waktunya harus melihat kondisi ini sebagai pintu masuk untuk mendukung proses pembentukan identitas diri remaja. Guru sebagai orang dewasa bukan orang tua memiliki kesempatan yang besar untuk hadir di tengah kehidupan remaja (murid sekolah) dan dapat berperan dalam proses pembentukan identitas diri remaja. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelusuri peran guru kristen sebagai transformational leader dalam proses pembentukan identitas diri murid di sekolah BCS. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan mewawancarai delapan guru dan sembilan murid di SMP dan SMA BCS di Manado. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa: (1) Peran guru kristen harus melekat pada identitasnya sebagai murid Kristus; (2) Sebagai transformational leader, guru harus membangun relasi dengan murid dan menjadi gembala bagi muridnya; dan (3) Guru harus menjadi sahabat bagi murid untuk terlibat dalam proses pembentukan identitas diri murid.
