Abstract

Classes in Sunday School aims to bring growth to student's Faith in Christianity; both to have relationship with Jesus Christ or the application of the Faith that contribute in their lives. The Learning of Christian Faith in GBI Jel's sunday school uses story telling method which is just re-telling the bible stories in its original context. This method makes students in year 7th-8th only acknowledged the Bible stories without the ability to grasp the meaning to daily life application. The type of this research is Classroom Action Research which aims to improve student's motivation and understanding. This research was conducted in three cycles. The data collection technique in this research used the observation, interview, field note and test. Data analysis technique used qualitative descriptive data analysis. Based on the research result, it can be concluded that the implementation of contextual teaching and learning can improve student motivation and understanding that can be proven from increasing score percentage from the pre cycle at the amount of 50% increased to be 100% on the cycle III or increased by 50% from the initial condition. Beside that, based on the test given to students, successful can be prove from the increasing percentage score of understanding from pre cycle at the amount of 20% increased to be 88% on the cycle III or increased by 68% from the initial condition. / Pembelajaran iman di sekolah minggu memiliki tujuan untuk membawa siswa bertumbuh dalam iman Kristen, yaitu memiliki hubungan dengan Kristus maupun iman yang bertindak dan berkontribusi dalam kehidupan. Pembelajaran iman Kristen GBI Jel biasanya hanya berkisar pada cerita Alkitab yang diceritakan kembali sama dengan konteks Alkitab. Hal ini membuat siswa yang berada di kelas usia 7-8 tahun hanya mengerti cerita Alkitab tanpa dapat memahami makna untuk kehidupan sehari-hari. Berangkat dari masalah yang dikemukakan tersebut, maka guru mengambil tindakan perbaikan menggunakan pendekatan Contextual Teaching dan Learning (CTL) untuk melihat perkembangan motivasi belajar dan pemahaman siswa. Penelitian tindakan ini dilakukan dalam 3 siklus dengan subyek penelitian adalah 10 orang siswa sekolah minggu berusia 7-8 tahun. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara observasi dan tes tertulis/lisan, wawancara, dan catatan lapangan yang selanjutnya dianalisis dan disajikan dalam bentuk deskriptif kualitatif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, disimpulkan bahwa pendekatan Contextual teaching and Learning dapat meningkatkan motivasi belajar dan pemahaman. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan adanya peningkatan persentase motivasi belajar dari pra siklus sebesar 50% meningkat menjadi 100% pada siklus ketiga, atau meningkat sebesar 50%. Selain itu berdasarkan tes yang dilakukan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa terjadi peningkatan persentase skor pemahaman yaitu pada pra siklus sebesar 20% menjadi 88% atau meningkat sebesar 68%.
