Abstract

Leadership is a crucial principle in realizing the vision and mission of an organization. Therefore, the leadership model applied must be appropriate in order to be able to influence and motivate all members to achieve the expected organizational performance. This is based on the performance problems of Private Junior High Schools A and B which experienced a decline in performance in the number of new students, customer satisfaction index and school finances during the 2020/2021 to 2022/2023 academic year. This phenomenon is the focus of research with the aim of analyzing the leadership implemented, identifying the causes of a decline in school performance achievements and analyzing leadership that has an impact on school performance. The method used is case study research. The case study type is a multiple case study because it involves private schools A and B. Data collection techniques involve interviews with two school principals and four teachers. Observations of the teacher's work environment and documents regarding school performance results. The research results show that participative leadership is very important in creating a pleasant work community for members and improving individual performance, but it has not had a maximum impact on achieving school performance. From the results of this research, it is recommended that in improving school performance, school principals can apply transformational leadership which emphasizes change and team development to achieve higher goals, transactional leadership which emphasizes stimulation. The emphasis of these two leadership models is not found in participative leadership which has a greater influence on the comfort of the work environment for members. / Kepemimpinan merupakan prinsip krusial dalam mewujudkan visi dan misi organisasi. Oleh karena itu model kepemimpinan yang diterapkan haruslah tepat agar mampu memengaruhi dan memotivasi seluruh anggota mencapai kinerja organisasi yang diharapkan. Hal ini didasarkan pada permasalahan kinerja Sekolah Menengah Pertama Swasta A dan B yang mengalami penurunan kinerja jumlah murid baru, indeks kepuasan pelanggan dan keuangan sekolah selama tahun ajaran 2020/2021 sampai tahun ajaran 2022/2023. Fenomena ini menjadi fokus penelitian dengan tujuan menganalisa kepemimpinan yang diterapkan, mengidentifikasi penyebab terjadi penurunan pencapaian kinerja sekolah dan menganalisa kepemimpinan yang berdampak pada kinerja sekolah. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian studi kasus. Tipe studi kasus adalah studi kasus ganda karena melibatkan sekolah swasta A dan B. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara dua orang kepala sekolah dan empat guru. Observasi terhadap lingkungan kerja guru dan dokumen tentang hasil kinerja sekolah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kepemimpinan partisipatif sangat penting dalam menciptakan komunitas kerja menyenangkan bagi anggota dan meningkatkan kinerja individu, tetapi belum berdampak maksimal pada pencapaian kinerja sekolah. Dari hasil penelitian ini, disarankan agar dalam meningkatkan kinerja sekolah, kepala sekolah dapat menerapkan kepemimpinan transformasional yang menekankan perubahan dan pengembangan tim untuk mencapai tujuan lebih tinggi, kepemimpinan transaksisional yang menekankan rangsangan. Penekanan kedua model kepemimpinan ini tidak ditemukan dalam kepemimpinan partisipatif yang lebih berpengaruh kenyamanan lingkungan kerja bagi anggota.
