Abstract

Background: In recent decades, the prevalence of cardiovascular disease has significantly increased, becoming a major global health concern. Dyslipidemia, characterized by abnormal levels of lipids in the blood, is a primary risk factor for this condition. Body Mass Index (BMI) is known to influence blood lipid profiles. This study aimed to delve deeper into the relationship between BMI and blood lipid profiles in young adult dyslipidemia patients aged 25-39 years at Siloam Hospital Lippo Village.
Methods: This cross-sectional study employed a correlational analytical design. Data was collected from laboratory results within the medical records of dyslipidemia patients who underwent medical check-ups at Siloam Hospital Lippo Village.
Results: The analysis of 71 samples revealed a median BMI of 27.3 were obese. The Rank-Spearman test demonstrated a significant correlation between BMI and both HDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels. The Spearman's correlation coefficient (rs) are -0.343 for HDL cholesterol and 0.270 for triglycerides. This suggests that as BMI increases, HDL cholesterol levels tend to decrease, while triglyceride levels tend to increase.
Conclusion: The findings of this study support the existence of a positive relationship between body mass index and triglyceride levels (rs = 0.270) and a negative relationship with HDL cholesterol levels (rs = -0.343).
