Abstract
The cultural adaptation of Papua students highlights the urgent need for an inclusive and culturally sensitive approach to address cultural differences. Communication difficulties, social interaction barriers, and the psychological impact on students indicate the necessity for a deeper understanding of cultural adaptation dynamics so that schools can support students' psychological well-being and academic outcomes. This study uses a qualitative approach to deeply understand the process of cultural adaptation that occurs between students and teachers from different cultural backgrounds, employing a constructivist or interpretivist paradigm that emphasizes a thorough understanding of how individuals from different cultures interpret and manage cultural adaptation in an educational setting or among boarding schools with cultural diversity between students and teachers. The researcher found that cultural processes affect communication and interaction at SLH Gunung Moria. The acculturation and communication adaptation faced by Papua students at SLH Gunung Moria generally have similarities, stemming from cultural differences, including language, values, traditions, and communication patterns between students and teachers. The main challenges identified include inequality and disparity. Geographical gaps faced by Papua students at SLH Gunung Moria, such as differences in climate, distance from their families, and cultural support systems, influence their cultural adaptation process. The process of cultural adaptation, which impacts psychological well-being and academic outcomes, involves social support, spirituality, and infrastructure. Students face barriers related to language, values, and cultural patterns that differ from those of their teachers, as well as semantic challenges in the delivery of educational material. Fasicilities and infrastructure are crucial considerations in supporting the success of cultural adaptation and the psychological well-being of students.
