Abstract

Latar belakang masalah dari penelitian ini yaitu, peneliti melihat adanya kesenjangan antara teori dan praktik tentang motivasi belajar yang terjadi di kelas XI IPS 2. Motivasi belajar merupakan hal yang penting untuk dimiliki oleh setiap siswa. Setiap siswa yang ada di kelas adalah makhluk ciptaan serupa dan segambar dengan Allah yang memiliki keunikan dan potensi. Oleh karena itu, sebagai seorang guru sangatlah penting untuk menyingkapkan/mengembangkan potensi yang dimiliki oleh siswa melalui meningkatkan motivasi belajar mereka. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk (1) mengetahui faktor-faktor penyebab rendahnya motivasi belajar siswa SMA kelas XI IPS 2, (2) mengkaji pelaksanaan reward dan punishment di kelas XI IPS 2, (3) menelaah dampak dari penggunaan reward dan punishment terhadap motivasi belajar siswa-siswi kelas XI IPS 2. Metodologi yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas dalam tiga siklus menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif/naratif dengan sampel sejumlah 25 siswa yang terdiri dari 10 siswa perempuan dan 15 siswa laki-laki di salah satu sekolah Kristen di kota Semarang. Alat pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, wawancara, catatan harian (jurnal refleksi), dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian tindakan kelas menunjukkan bahwa penerapan reward dan punishment telah meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa kelas XI IPS 2. Meningkatnya motivasi belajar siswa kelas XI IPS 2 dapat dilihat dari partisipasi aktifnya di dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar seperti bertanya, menanggapi (memberi komentar/tanggapan/pendapat baik diminta ataupun tidak diminta), menjawab pertanyaan serta adanya ungkapan-ungkapan (reaksi) lisan dan tertulis yang menyatakan minat dan sikap siswa yang positif terhadap kegiatan belajar. / The background of this research is the problem, researcher saw the gap between theory and practice of learning motivation was happening in class XI IPS 2. Motivation to learn is important to be possessed by each student. Each student in the class are creatures that created similar in the image of God who has the uniqueness and potential. Hence, as a teacher it is important to uncover and develop the potential possessed by students through their learning motivation. The purpose of this study was to (1) determine the causing facts of the low motivation for studying toward the high school students in class XI IPS 2, (2) examine the implementation of reward and punishment in class XI IPS 2, (3) examine the effects of the implementation of reward and punishment on students' learning motivation grade XI IPS 2. Methodology which is used is the class-action research in three cycles by \descriptive approach / narrative with 25 students of samples, which are consist of 10 female students and 15 male students at one Christian school in Semarang. The data collection instrument used were observation, interviews, diary (journal reflection), and documentation. The results of class action research show that the class action application of reward and punishment have increased motivation to study of the students in class XI IPS 2. The Increasing of the motivation to study of the students in class XI IPS 2 can be seen from his active participation in teaching and learning activities such as asking, responding to (make comments / feedback / opinions either requested or not requested), answering questions and expressions of (reaction) oral and written expressed interest and the positive attitudes of the students toward learning activities.
