Abstract

Berdasarkan pengamatan yang dilakukan di kelas II SD XYZ Tangerang, didapati bahwa siswa kesulitan dalam memahami konsep matematika dengan topik operasi hitung pengurangan bilangan cacah. Siswa selalu mengalami kesulitan saat mengerjakan soal yang diberikan. Hal ini dipicu oleh rasa tidak suka terhadap pelajaran matematika karena banyak siswa yang memiliki pandangan bahwa matematika adalah pelajaran yang sulit. Berdasarkan permasalahan ini,maka akan dilakukan tindakan perbaikan dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran direct instruction. Melalui penelitian ini, diharapkan dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa pada operasi hitung bilangan cacah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat ada tidaknya peningkatan pemahaman konsep siswa dengan menerapkan langkah-langkah model pembelajaran direct instruction. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) model Kemmis dan Mc Taggart. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus tindakan. Setiap siklus tindakan terdiri dari satu pertemuan dengan subjek utama peneltian berjumlah 34 siswa. Penelitian dilaksanakan sejak tanggal 3 Agustus 2015 sampai tanggal 29 0ktober 2015. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman konsep siswa melalui penerapan model pembelajaran direct instruction. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari peningkatan keberhasilan indikator yang dicapai pada setiap siklus. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa model pembelajaran direct instruction dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa pada pelajaran matematika dengan topik operasi hitung pengurangan kelas II SD XYZ Tangerang./Based on the research in grade II at SD XYZ Tangerang, the researcher found that students had difficulty in understanding mathematics concept about topic subtraction arithmetic operation for whole number. The students always had difficulty while working on the problem given by the teacher. It is triggered by the resentment towards mathematics because many students view mathematics as difficult subject. From this problem, the researcher decided to implement direct instruction learning model. From this research, expected that the students’ conceptual understanding in arithmetic operation for whole number will improve..This research is aimed to see the increase conceptual understanding of the students by implementing the steps of direct instruction model. The research method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) Kemmis and Mc Taggart model. The research was held in two cycles. Every cycle consisted of one meeting with the main subject of the research involved 34 students. The research was conducted on August 3rd until October 29th, 2015. The findings showed the enhancement of students’ conceptual understanding through the implementation of direct instruction learning model. This can be seen through the improvement level of indicator achievement in every cycle. Thus, the researcher concluded that direct instruction learning model can increase students’ conceptual understanding in learning mathematics about subtraction arithmetic operation for whole number in grade II at SD XYZ Tangerang.
