Abstract
Berdasarkan observasi di SD di Labuan Bajo ditemukan para murid mengalami
kesulitan dalam pelajaran Bahasa Inggris yaitu, mispronounciation dan
misspelling. Hal ini dikarenakan kurangnya latihan yang guru berikan bagi murid
dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbahasa Inggris. Keterampilan berbahasa
murid adalah tujuan dari pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Keterampilan berbahasa
adalah anugerah yang Tuhan beri untuk menuntun murid dapat berkomunikasi
dengan pemahaman yang benar. Tujuan dari penulisan makalah ini adalah untuk
memaparkan penerapan teknik drilling dalam meningkatkan keterampilan
berbahasa Inggris murid sekolah dasar selama pembelajaran daring. Metode
penelitian yang digunakan dalam penulisan ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil
dari penelitian ini ditemukan masalah mengenai keterampilan berbahasa Inggris
murid yang disebabkan karena kurangnya latihan berulang, pembiasaan berbahasa
Indonesia di kelas bahasa Inggris dan keterbatasan waktu mengajar. Guru
menerapkan teknik drilling untuk menolong murid SD meningkatkan
keterampilan bahasa Inggris secara maksimal. Langkah penerapan teknik drilling
adalah dengan menentukan indikator permasalahan, memberikan latihan yang
kontekstual, meminta murid untuk mengulang pengucapan guru, dan memberikan
umpan balik. Kesimpulannya, keterampilan berbahasa Inggris murid SD
meningkat ketika guru memberikan banyak kesempatan latihan dengan teknik
drilling. Adapun saran untuk peneliti selanjutnya untuk memfokuskan teknik
drilling berbasis media digital dan keefektifannya terhadap perkembangan
kemampuan berbahasa Inggris murid SD selama pembelajaran daring./Based on observations in elementary schools in Labuan Bajo, it was found that
students had difficulties in learning English, namely, mispronounciation and
misspelling. This is due to the lack of training that teachers give to students in
improving English language skills. Student skills are the goal of learning English.
Language skills are a gift that God has given to guide students to communicate
with correct understanding. The purpose of writing this paper is to describe the
application of drilling techniques in improving English learning skills during
online learning. The research method used in this paper is descriptive qualitative.
The results of this study were problems regarding the English language skills of
elementary school students caused by lack of repeated practice, Indonesian
language habituation in English classes and limited teaching time. The teacher
applies drilling techniques to help elementary students improve their English
skills to the maximum. The steps for implementing the drilling technique are to
determine problem indicators, provide contextual exercises, ask students to repeat2
the teacher's pronunciation, and provide feedback. In conclusion, English skills
improve when the teacher provides many practice opportunities with drilling
techniques. As for suggestions for further researchers to focus on drilling
techniques based on digital media and their effectiveness on the development of
English language skills of elementary school students during bold learning.
