Abstract

The design of the Sarasvati: Handwoven Textile Information and Empowerment Garden aims to create a public space that serves as a center for learning, interaction, and the preservation of Indonesian Tenun culture. Using a single-object case study and the 5P placemaking framework (People, Product, Process, Program, Place Evaluation), the design was developed based on literature and interviews to align with the project’s goals. The spatial flow “discover–experience–collaborate” guides visitors through an engaging journey. Practical elements like natural lighting, air circulation, and durable local materials were prioritized for comfort and functionality. Each area responds to specific activities, with tenun at the core of the design. This project shows that handwoven textiles can be presented in a modern, engaging way that also builds cultural awareness. The space is made to be inclusive and adaptive, welcoming all generations. Overall, the design aims to inform, inspire, and involve the community in preserving Indonesia’s textile heritage.
